Detailed Description:
Tower Plant & Civil Engineering Ltd delivered the Athenry Northern Relief Road – Western Section for Galway County Council, acting as Main Contractor and Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS). The scheme comprised approximately 950 m of new offline road and a new roundabout at Ballygarraun North, Athenry, with connections to the surrounding road network.
Works commenced in August 2025 and were completed in August 2026. The construction package included site clearance and fencing, earthworks and road formation, drainage and attenuation infrastructure, pavement construction and road surfacing, kerbing, road lighting and signage.
Dedicated footpaths and cycleways were delivered alongside the new road, integrating active-travel provision with the road infrastructure. Coordinating these elements with drainage, pavement and network interfaces required careful sequencing and management across the scheme.
As Works Contractor and PSCS, Tower coordinated the construction activities and construction-stage health and safety, bringing together its roadworks, drainage and active-travel delivery experience to complete the Western Section for Galway County Council.
